MOOSE!!!

My father is crazy about moose. A fact that is evidently well known by his grandchildren. So when they spotted some moose themed fabric while I was scouring my local fabric store for last minute Solstice/Christmas supplies, they started right in…”We have to buy this for Pop-pop! We have to…look Mommy it has moose on it.”

My queries as to what we would do with said fabric, were met with uncertain replies, the most popular of which was “make a bag”. What exactly Pop-pop (who by the way, already owns a bag or carrying case for almost every object in his possession) was going to do with this bag, no one really knew, but they were determined to buy the fabric for him. Their desire to please him was so great, and their motives so sweet and generous, that I couldn’t refuse.

We left the store only after I had made it extremely clear that I would under no circumstances be attempting to make something of it for Christmas. I was coming down to the line and my plate was already quite full, thank you very much.

“Perhaps for Father’s Day…”

Which also bought me some time to figure out what exactly to, you know, do with 3 fat quarters of moose print…

When I mentioned my dilemma to my mom, she informed me that my father was in need of a pillow. That I can do…

My Papa and my eldest boy have a very special bond (perhaps this accounts for Iain frequently referring to himself as “the moose”???).I asked Iain if he would help me with Pop-pop’s present this year. I thought I would try my hand at turning kid art into fiber art, a la Soulemama.

Here is Iain’s moose, along with his beautiful little hand-made card. He wants you all to know that the moose is blue because he couldn’t find his brown pencil and he asked that my version be done in brown.

And here is the pillow. It was really fun to work with Iain’s art, I am, after-all, one of his biggest fans!
And while we are on the subject of moose….
At around 6:30 yesterday morning the boys headed downstairs. I was laying in bed, nursing the baby, and trying to decide whether or not I really wanted to get up just then, when Iain casually called up to me “Mama, there’s a moose in the yard”.

And so there was….

Not great pictures I’m afraid, but you get the idea!
